Hidden Stories Walking Tours

Sweet Air, Scuttlers, Lost Churches & Hidden Stories Walking Tours

The strangest  sculpture in Manchester, great views, astonishing history and a scramble up the stones that built the city are on offer at the walking tours of Angel Meadow and beyond that MeadowSide is sponsoring this summer.

The two-hour tours, led by local historian and Blue Badge guide, Jonathan Schofield, follow the route of the Impossible Bridge and the Improbable Hill and uncover many lost corners of Manchester.

Each tour brings together all the romance of faded industry, ruins and memory with dramatic insights into how cities morph and change and how new optimism can blossom in even the most unlikely corners of urban areas.

The tours are free of charge, thanks to  sponsorship by MeadowSide, and take a comprehensive look at the area and combines story-telling, a cast of fascinating characters, and good humour to bring to life the dramatic story of Angel Meadow and the Irk Valley and their bright future.  Jonathan points out where The Gate and The Styal will be located in the MeadowSide development and talks through the reinvention of one of Manchester city centre’s more characterful residential areas.

Three tours have taken place so far and Jonathan will be announcing further ones over the course of the summer which we will publicise here in The Journal section of our website.  Tours can be booked @jonathanschofieldtours.com with the subject as ‘Angel & Irk’ and the date you wish to attend.
